Mr. Donald “Joe” Knight , 73, of Indianapolis passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2009, after a long battle with lung cancer. Donald Joe was born in Noblesville, Indiana on December 20, 1935, the son of the late Roy Maurice and Marie Estella (Roberts) Knight. During his youth he attended Noblesville Schools and Bethel A.M.E. Church. As a young man, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country honorably. While serving as a Marine, Donald Joe received the United National Medal, Korean Services Medal, National Defense Medal and even a Good Conduct Medal. After serving in the United States Marine Corps, Donald Joe lived most of his adult life in California where he worked as a cook for various restaurants. He later moved back to Indianapolis to be close with family.Donald Joe, Uncle “Joe”, was known for his “peculiar” ways. He loved cleanliness, good food and NASCAR. He will be missed. He is survived by his son, Anthony Elliott (Toni); his niece Brenda Cross (Jerry); two other nieces, four nephews, six great-nieces, two great-nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers (Charles “Buddy” Knight and Roy “June” Knight Jr.) and sister (Kathryn J. Knight-Rice). Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 11:00am at the Harry W. Moore Funeral Care, located at 8151 Allisonville Road. His great-niece, Rev. Tisha Reid and husband Rev. Rodric Reid will officiate the memorial service, which will conclude with military honors by the US Marines.
